Our physician-researchers build innovative approaches to care, make ground-breaking advancements in their fields and train the next generation of providers — all to bring leading-edge treatments to you as soon as safely possible.
Working together to advance medicine and quality of care.
University of Vermont Health is home to University of Vermont Medical Center, one of 138 academic medical centers in the country that provide patient care and educate future health care providers. As an academic health system, we are able to provide leading-edge care, informed by research and clinical trials, to patients throughout our region.
The foundation of these efforts lies in our longstanding alliance with the Larner College of Medicine and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at University of Vermont. A top-100 public research university, University of Vermont awards more than $250 million in research funding each year, including up to $100 million toward clinical research.
Advancing Care Through Clinical Trials
Our researchers are involved in more than 1,000 active clinical trials in various specialty areas including oncology, neurology and vaccine testing.

Excellence & Innovation in Research
Medical research often changes people’s lives for the better. Researchers at UVM Health play an integral role in that change, working to bring a greater understanding of disease, wellness and new, more effective treatments through clinical trials and other research initiatives.
Our research takes place in laboratory, clinical and community settings, and focuses on many different areas of medicine, including cancer, cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience, vaccines, metabolic research and more.
This research is supported through our state-of-the-art facilities, including the new Firestone Medical Research Building, and research funding from the Larner College of Medicine, which receives between $90 and $100 million in funding annually.
