As an academic health system, we provide leading-edge care, informed by research and clinical trials, to you as soon as safely possible.

Advancing care with cutting-edge treatments.

University of Vermont Health is committed to advancing the field of medicine through research. Our participation in clinical trials allows us to offer our patients immediate access to treatments that are not widely available and to improve care for patients in our communities, across the country and around the world.

In partnership with Larner College of Medicine, we are currently involved in more than 1,000 active clinical research trials in various specialty areas, including oncology, neurology and vaccine testing. All research opportunities that we offer to our patients have been approved by our Institutional Review Board, which demands the highest levels of ethical behavior, transparency and protection of patient safety and privacy.

What Is a Clinical Trial?

Clinical trials are research studies involving patients, often focusing on a specific condition or patient population. They’re carefully designed to seek more effective treatments and new ways of preventing, screening for, or diagnosing diseases.

Clinical trials are the fastest and safest way to find new treatments that work and improve health.

Before a new treatment is approved for general use in the United States, clinical research must be conducted to prove it is safe and effective.

Find a Clinical Trial

There are several ways to find an active clinical trial. If you are a current patient, ask your doctor if there are any available research studies for your condition. They can tell you if you are eligible for any current clinical trials, explain the benefits and risks of participating, and help you enroll.

You can also visit ClinicalTrials.gov to find a list of active clinical trials. You can search for clinical trials in your area, or clinical trials focusing on a specific condition or treatment.

For a complete list of clinical trials being conducted at UVM Health, or to get more information about a specific clinical trial, please contact the Office of Clinical Trials research at 802-656-8990 or clinicaltrials@uvm.edu.
